FAQS

Do you offer virtual therapy?

Yes. I provide secure virtual therapy sessions for clients in Louisiana and Texas, including areas such as Hammond, Baton Rouge, Covington, New Orleans, Houston, and Dallas. Virtual sessions allow you to access care from the comfort and privacy of your own space.

What issues do you specialize in?

I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, mood disorders (including bipolar-related concerns), stress management, and life transitions. I also work with clients navigating emotional dysregulation, relationship stress, and unresolved past experiences.

What type of therapy do you use?

I use evidence-based approaches tailored to each client’s needs. This includes trauma-informed therapy, cognitive-behavioral interventions (CBT), somatic-based techniques, grounding skills, and emotional regulation strategies. My work is collaborative and individualized rather than one-size-fits-all.

What is somatic and trauma-informed therapy?

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the body and mind, helping you understand how stress and trauma are stored in the nervous system. Trauma-informed therapy prioritizes safety, pacing, and empowerment while helping you process painful experiences in a structured and supportive way.

How long have you been practicing?

I have over 13 years of professional experience in the mental health field working with individuals, families, and groups across various settings.

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session focuses on understanding your concerns, history, and goals for therapy. We will begin building a plan that fits your needs while establishing a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship.

Do you accept insurance?

This depends on your practice structure. Many clients choose private pay for increased flexibility and privacy. (You can adjust this based on your actual policy.)

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally drained, or struggling to manage stress, relationships, or past experiences, therapy can help. You do not have to wait until things feel unmanageable to begin.

What makes your approach different?

My approach blends clinical expertise with a culturally responsive, trauma-informed lens. I focus on helping clients not only understand their experiences but also build practical tools to regulate emotions, process trauma, and create lasting change.

Trauma

What are the signs of unresolved trauma?

Unresolved trauma can show up in many ways, including anxiety, depression, irritability, difficulty trusting others, emotional numbness, hypervigilance, sleep disturbances, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, or avoidance of certain people, places, or situations. Some individuals may also experience physical symptoms such as chronic pain, headaches, fatigue, or digestive issues. Trauma affects everyone differently, and symptoms can appear immediately after an event or years later.

How does trauma affect the nervous system?

Trauma can disrupt the nervous system’s ability to accurately assess safety and danger. The body may become stuck in survival responses such as fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. This can lead to increased stress hormones, heightened anxiety, difficulty relaxing, emotional reactivity, and challenges with concentration and decision-making. Trauma therapy helps regulate the nervous system and restore a greater sense of safety and balance.

How long does trauma therapy take?

The length of trauma therapy varies depending on the nature of the trauma, the severity of symptoms, and the individual’s goals. Some people experience meaningful improvement within a few months, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. Healing is not a linear process, and therapy is tailored to each person’s pace, needs, and readiness.

Somatic Therapy

What is somatic therapy?

omatic therapy is a body-centered approach to healing that recognizes the connection between the mind and body. It focuses on how stress, trauma, and emotional experiences
are stored physically and helps individuals increase awareness of bodily sensations, nervous system responses, and patterns of tension. Through guided techniques, clients learn to regulate emotions, reduce stress, and develop a greater sense of safety within their bodies.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Yes. Research continues to support the effectiveness of somatic approaches for trauma, anxiety, stress-related disorders, and emotional regulation. Somatic therapy draws from neuroscience, attachment theory, and trauma research, emphasizing the role of the nervous system in mental health and recovery. Many clients find that combining traditional talk therapy with somatic techniques provides a more comprehensive healing experience.

What happens during a somatic therapy session?

A somatic therapy session may include traditional conversation along with exercises that increase awareness of physical sensations, breathing patterns, posture, movement, and nervous system responses. Clients are never forced to relive traumatic experiences. Instead, therapy focuses on building safety, developing coping skills, and helping the body release stored stress in a gradual and supportive way.

Therapy for Black Men

Why is culturally competent therapy important?

Culturally competent therapy recognizes the impact that culture, identity, lived experiences, and systemic barriers can have on mental health. For Black men, therapy that acknowledges these realities can create a more affirming and supportive environment. A culturally responsive therapist understands the importance of exploring experiences related to race, masculinity, family, community, and social expectations without judgment.

What mental health challenges do Black men commonly face?

Black men may experience a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, burnout, grief, relationship challenges, and the emotional effects of discrimination. Social pressures to appear strong or self-reliant can sometimes
make it difficult to seek support. Therapy provides a confidential space to process emotions, develop coping strategies, and improve overall well-being.

How can therapy help with racial stress and burnout?

Therapy can help individuals identify the emotional and physical impact of racial stress, discrimination, and chronic exposure to inequity. Through therapy, clients can develop healthy coping strategies, strengthen boundaries, process difficult experiences, and build resilience. Therapy also provides a supportive space to explore identity, reclaim personal strengths, and prioritize self-care while navigating daily stressors.
